Lottery and Waitlists

When charter schools have more applicants than spaces available, a public lottery is held to fill those seats. Remaining applicants are placed on a waitlist created by that school.

The number of seats in the lottery can vary by grade level, charter school and school year. Schools use waitlists to fill seats when they become available, and schools make offers from their waitlisted applicants.

There is no guarantee that schools will make waitlist offers. Waitlists are active for the school year and do not carry over to the next school year.

It is not uncommon for applicants to move up the waitlist throughout the spring and summer. Because waitlists do not roll over into a new academic year, your child will need a reapply for each school year if a seat is not available.
